SAMIHAH ZAMAN (ABU DHABI)
Abu Dhabi is set to welcome four leading physicians specialised in ocular, orthopaedic, and reconstructive care during September as part of an ongoing initiative to provide world-class health services in the emirate.
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), which oversees Abu Dhabi's healthcare sector, announced the physician visits on its social media, and urged residents who require advanced treatment to contact the respective hospitals in order to book appointments.
"The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi welcomes top-tier doctors from around the world to the Emirate during September, offering exceptional healthcare services through the Visiting Physicians Programme," the DoH said.
Visiting Doctors
In September, Paul Geelen, an ocularist based at the Artificial Eye Services Hospital in Perth, Australia, will once again return to Abu Dhabi, and be available for consultation at the Moorfields Eye Hospital between September 14 to 28.
Dr. Munjed Al Muderis, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at St Mary Hospital, Paley Institute at West Palm Beach, US, will offer care at the Burjeel Medical City (BMC) between September 22 and 27. Dr. Al Muderis specialises in limb lengthening and reconstruction, diabetic care, joint replacement, and orthopaedic oncology, and recently performed a trio of life-changing osseointegration surgeries at the BMC.
Dr. Austin Fragomen, consultant orthopaedic and limb lengthening surgeon at HSS Hospital in New York, US, will see patients at Healthpoint Hospital between September 29 and October 3. He is an expert in skeletal reconstruction, deformity correction, and fracture care.
Dr. Jordan Swanson, an expert in plastic, reconstructive, and oral surgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, will visit the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City between September 29 and October 3. He will offer consultation and treatment for cleft conditions and facial trauma, and look into cases requiring craniofacial surgery, ear reconstruction, and extremity reconstruction.
More than 3,200 patients have been treated in Abu Dhabi since 2021 as part of the DoH programme, which aims to reduce the need for people to travel abroad for specialist medical care.
